ANIMAL RIGHTS & WELFARE ORGANISATIONS

This section is for organisations which do not necessarily have shelters or any re-homing facilities but are mainly concerned with changing people's attitudes to animal welfare. In some cases it was difficult to decide whether an organisation should be in this section or the RESCUERS or the ANIMALS sections - please check both. • Advocates for Animals www.advocatesforanimals.org.uk Scotland's and one of the UK's leading animal protection organisations. Campaigns in Scotland, the UK, Europe and Worldwide against all animal abuse - including vivisection, bloodsports, factory farming, performing and captive animals.
• Animal Aid www.animalaid.org.uk  One of the World"s most comprehensive animal rights web sites. Information about campaigns and news (we get some of our news for our Mailing List Newsletter from this site) Superb site, packed with information.
• Animals Count: http://www.animalscount.org: A political party whose mission is to establish a voice for animals, a party whose focus is respect and compassion for all living beings.

• CAFT (Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade)  www.caft.org.uk CAFT liaises with local animalmprotection groups in the campaign against the fur trade. Also carries out research, investigations and political work. Site contains ¸Anti-Fur News" and links to anti and pro fur web sites.
• CAPS. Captive Animals Protection Society: http://www.captiveanimals.org CAPS is opposed to the use of performing animals in circuses and wishes to see animal circuses outlawed. CAPS seeks to prevent the use and exploitation of captive and performing animals, and investigates cases of alleged cruelty against captive and performing animals.
• Compassion in World Farming www.ciwf.co.uk Campaigning to end the factory farming of animals. Details of campaigns with links. Use this site to look up info about battery hens etc.
• Friends of Animals: International Organisation: http://www.friendsofanimals.org: An international non-profit, animal advocacy organization. FoA works to cultivate a respectful view of nonhuman animals, free-living and domestic. Our goal is to free animals from cruelty and institutionalized exploitation
  around the world.
• Greyhound Action Scotland: http://www.greyhoundactionscotland.org.uk: Campaign to raise public awareness into the exploitation of racing greyhounds. Campaign aiming towards achieving a ban on greyhound racing in Scotland.

• International Society for Animal Rights: http://www.isaronline.org: ISAR is a nonprofit organization whose main purpose is to promote the rights of animals through education and law. Public education on the importance of spaying and neutering dogs and cats to alleviate the pet overpopulation crisis continues to be an important part of our activities.

• PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) www.peta.org.uk One of the best web sites you"ll ever see. Very informative and easy to use. Find out how animals are cruelly used in tests for such things as cosmetics and washing powders etc. DON"T MISS IT!

• Viva!: National Organisation: http://viva.org.uk: Info on factory farming and what you can do to end it, plus info on going vegetarian/vegan.
• West Yorkshire Hunt Saboteurs: Yorkshire : http://westyorkshirehuntsabs.wordpress.com/: West Yorkshire Hunt Saboteurs use non-violent direct action to stop blood sports around Yorkshire, and assist other groups to do the same around the country. We mainly focus on fox and hare hunting (Illegal in the UK since 2005), but we are also involved in campaigns against shooting, Hare coursing, rabbiting (rabbit hunting) and other forms of hunting.
